A triptych in the tradition of Creepshow where especially the last story is very entertaining.
The effects are of excellent quality. Deborah Harry (Blondie) plays Betty, a witch who holds the boy captive to eventually offer as a main course. To gain time, the boy tells the three stories. References to Hansel and Gretel are thick. Entertaining. 6/10

And on with the next King 90s horror. And although his name is presented grandly, the addition with one story is not very big. The name King apparently sells. Quality does not necessarily mean it, we already knew that, and is also confirmed with this film that has nice moments but is otherwise not special.

The film consists of four parts with three stories in that sense and they all have their own humor and tension. The first I find especially ridiculous, in the second many people who come to my house will think they recognize my cat, and the third is both the most predictable and bizarre. Striking is the cast with many names probably still at the beginning of their career with Slater, Moore, Buscemi, Rae Dawn Chong who is very pleasant to the eye, a special cameo by Debbie Harry and veteran William Hickey.

There is not much more to say about Tales Of The Dark Side for me except that the stories are not so much scary as dirty and morbid. Although I am sometimes up for a slightly wrong King adaptation, this one did not really interest me and it was all just a bit too substandard for me. Nice for once but certainly not more.

In the frame story we see witch Debby Harry who is about to prepare a fattened boy for dinner. The boy tries to postpone that moment and reads her three stories. Three appetizing stories that were filmed in a pleasantly stylized way by director John Harrison. Nice stories that are a great distraction from the daily worries of the viewer for an hour and a half.

Nice stories with black humor and a morbid touch. The first segment is about a mummy, is not very original but has a nice dark atmosphere. With Cristian Slater and Steve Buscemi. In the second episode a hitman is contracted with the assignment to kill an apparent killer cat. An original idea that is not played out completely satisfactorily. The location in the form of an old mansion with many rooms, stairs and sparse lighting creates an uncomfortable atmosphere. The last film is a love story. A particularly atmospheric start but less atmospheric as a whole than the rest of the film. As an idea and in the execution however a pleasant experience. Moreover, Rae Dawn Chong plays in it. For me a plus.

Tales from the Darkness is an entertaining film that is mainly atmospheric and has nice black humorous moments. Stylistically beautiful. In terms of content it remains on the banal side. The stories have more potential than the final result shows. The action remains on the surface. There was more to get. That will mainly be due to the short playing time of each segment. Very logical and as expected, but it is a pity.
