Safar e Ghandehar plot
Two years ago, Mohsen Makhmalbaf was approached by the young Afghan journalist Niloufar Pazira. The woman who had emigrated to Canada asked the director to accompany her on a trip through Afghanistan. Purpose of the trip: to stop a desperate friend living in Kandahar from committing suicide. Makhmalbaf did not agree to the request, but later traveled clandestinely through Afghanistan. He was struck by barbaric conditions in which the population found themselves. Shocked, Makhmalbaf decided to make a part documentary, part fictional film about a region forgotten by the world. Pazira herself plays the role of a journalist who undertakes a perilous journey through the Taliban empire.
