Hush plot

Tired and annoyed, Zakes Abbott drives down the interstate with his sleeping girlfriend Beth. When a white truck recklessly overtakes them, the tailgate comes loose and Zakes thinks he sees a bloodied woman sitting in the back of the truck. Before he can look again, the tailgate is already closed and he wonders in amazement whether it was really real. Later, at a parking lot, Zakes gets even more scared when Beth suddenly disappears. He embarks on a quest, but ends up in a deadly cat-and-mouse game...

Well, ''entertaining'' is the clichéd keyword. Simple, but relatively effective cat-and-mouse games. Of course comparable to dozens of titles, but more important is how Hush does it himself. So Mark Tonderai is just a simple, but solid director. House at the End of the Street (2012) also gets stuck on the same point (avoiding risks). Kudo's for the lighting, which ensures that Hush looks very atmospheric and well-groomed.

A nobody

Hush has a great plot description, a great start to the story, and some nice plot twists for the viewer. Where the shoe pinches him, however, is the low production value of amateurishly shot images and the sometimes worthless acting of certain characters.

The disadvantages mentioned above may be the result of a limited budget, but there is also plenty to note in terms of content. The story starts to feel quite rudderless and monotonous after a reasonably good set-up. The killer and the protagonist continue to revolve around each other, which I believe should arouse tension in the viewer (always be able to avoid the ultimate confrontation) but this cannot be repeated all the time. Another disadvantage I found that as a viewer you never got to see the dangerous maniac , he was always filmed at a certain moment so that you just didn't see his face (usually from behind over the shoulder) or in a way that you can see it face also just missed because a hoodie was always worn. I understand this was done to not reveal the character's identity and thus create mystery around him, but since practically nothing about his motives was revealed, the ruthless mistrader(?) [/ spoiler] a nod body. Just like the whole movie, by the way.

The final finale that the film tries to carefully build towards also feels like a soft spot and certain characters who were supposed to give the story a supposed extra layer (the two police officers) could just as well have been left out because they were largely redundant. In addition, the film becomes more and more predictable, so the longer I watched, the further my interest subsided. In the end, there isn't much left to enjoy.

2.0*

Had my reservations at the beginning of the film, came across a bit cheap and the moving camera was a nuisance. Gradually the film got a bit more exciting so we kept watching. The last half hour was stretched, we were also left with question marks. Certainly not much thought has gone into this movie, it was about time it was done.
