The Ex-Mrs. Bradford plot

To everyone's surprise, the contacts between doctor Lawrence "Brad" Bradford and his ex-wife Paula are still romantic in nature. They divorced because Brad hated being swept up in the murder mysteries to which mystery writer Paula is addicted. But through Mike North, the trainer of the horse Luxury, Brad becomes involved in the mysterious cause of death of a jockey. This jockey is said to have died of a heart attack during a race. Brad and Paula follow up the leads and it isn't long before Paula repeatedly asks Brad to remarry, but Brad keeps making excuses.
