Zhivi i Pomni plot
Andrei Gus'kov, who made a valuable contribution to the Russian army in January 1945, returns to his country of origin, Siberia. He hides in abandoned shacks near his native village. Only his wife, Nastena, knows his whereabouts, but she has promised to keep her mouth shut. The loyalty she has for her fleeing husband brings her into conflict with the rest of the village, especially with Semenovna and Mikheich, with whom she lives.
