Just a few days after the news that Gene Hackman had passed away, I watched this film. Strangely enough, I was completely unfamiliar with this film and I can't remember ever seeing it in the video store.

Actually a kind of standard drama story without becoming really heavy because there is also some humor in it.

Floyd can't get over the death of his wife, his bar is failing and a real estate shark is after his business.

The roles are nicely filled with Burgess Meredith as his old father-in-law who is in a wheelchair and provides many comic moments, Teri Garr gets to play the new girlfriend and there are a few other characters such as the sheriff and Floyd's sidekick.

Nice light drama with some comedic elements in it.

Floyd drifts through life without a purpose.

That could have made for a good film if something happened occasionally, but it mostly remains somewhat homeopathic, and it doesn't get very interesting. Beautifully acted, as you'd expect from the cast—not just Hackman, but also an old hand like Burgess Meredith and a top-notch actor like Elias Koteas. But perhaps they should have picked a different film; it doesn't really work for me.
