Millionaire sports enthusiast Hiram Brighton hires detective Michael Shayne to keep his daughter Phyllis away from playing roulette and betting on racetracks. After Phyllis suddenly slips away and resumes her addiction, Shayne fakes the murder of her boyfriend, who is also a gambler and who is also hitting on the casino owner's daughter. But when he is actually murdered, Shayne and Phyllis's aunt, who likes to investigate murders, are really puzzled as they try to uncover the killer's identity.
