When Delia (Miriam Hopkins)'s engagement to Clem (George Brent) comes to an end, Clem promises to marry Delia's cousin Charlotte (Bette Davis), but he dies at the Battle of Vicksburg. The unmarried mother Charlotte and her daughter Tina, presumably an orphan, are left behind. Delia legally adopts the girl. Charlotte watches her daughter grow up and get married, but she can never claim her daughter as her own.

Good film in which a woman meets a previous suitor again after a few years on the day of her wedding. The story takes place during the American Civil War and afterwards and covers a few decades. There is also enough progress in the film. Absolutely melodramatic, but the acting of Miriam Hopkins and especially Bette Davis makes up for a lot.
