Cold Souls plot
"A soul searching comedy."
While Paul Giamatti prepares to star in Chekhov's "Uncle Vanja", he has an emotional breakdown. He stumbles upon an article in The New Yorker about a high-tech company that can remove, freeze and preserve souls; he is convinced that this is the solution to getting rid of the 'unbearable heaviness of existence'. But living a soulless life turns out not to be so easy, so he hires the soul of a Russian poet, who takes him into a surreal dream world. However, the exchange takes an unexpected turn when he discovers that a Russian crime syndicate has set up a soul trade, involving couriers, obscure transactions and a thriving black market, and learns that his own soul has disappeared.
