The Unity of All Things plot

An expatriate Chinese physicist is visited in the United States by her two adolescent sons. She and her colleagues are developing a massive particle accelerator that they hope will help us better understand the origins of the universe. In the desert near the Mexican border, however, family relationships are strained as two geologists search for a special black panther in the physicists' field.
