Amoklauf plot

A nameless waiter leads a sad life. Seemingly emotionless, he goes through life and the daily highlight seems to consist of watching game shows on television. But then something snaps in the man and no one seems safe anymore...

Very grim and nihilistic film about a loner who apparently starts killing for no reason. Despite the short speed hour it is still a long sit and the film lacks the primary punch that Angst or Schramm possess.

Still quite an intriguing study of a man who lives completely outside of society.

Amoklauf is indeed somewhat similar to Angst, only Boll's film only sporadically manages to match the oppressive atmosphere of the former. The biggest mistake is the choice to switch from minimalist synth music to classical music. For a long time, Amoklauf was heading towards a film in the style of Angst or Schramm, but towards the end it goes wrong by making the wrong choices. The music, but also the stylistic exercise that Boll opted for, did not appeal to me. The endless repetitions and slow-mo's also started to irritate at a certain point. It's a good thing that Amoklauf did not last longer than 52 minutes (the 65 minutes mentioned here are incorrect). Still, I enjoyed the first part of this curiosity from the early years of Uwe Boll, a director who shows potential and only now, almost 20 years later, shows it again with works like Rampage.

3*

Depressingly designed film about a serial killer, only director Uwe Boll does not provide anything noteworthy in any respect. In all respects, clichéd decorations are used to make the main character memorable, but it just does not have an effect. Nevertheless, things immediately get going during the opening, only to immediately hit the brake pedal. In an unbelievably boring scene that seems to last forever, we follow random images on a television screen (an alternation between porn, exploitation and animal suffering) followed by a violent finale. It could have been particularly shocking, but the incompetent cut-and-paste work as well as the extremely boring filling of the main character mainly make it a long sit.
