A story that goes all the way and can't really be taken seriously for a moment, but that doesn't matter too much because this film is beautifully made! Visually impressive and therefore very atmospheric. Some scenes could have been proof of speaking in the dream flight and of course I only mean that positively.

Robin Williams with a nice over the top character that suited him perfectly, and the beauty of Uma Thurman wow!

The ending may go on a bit too long, but all in all I had a great time with this one.

3.5*

The least Gilliam I've seen so far. Tousled, lacks a common thread. Brazil before this was better, and the 90s movies are a lot better.

For the comedy part, the members of MPFC are sorely missed here.

Good.

Terry Gilliam in his clear best period. This film is a nice proof of that. I would rather see him make really imaginative films than more realistic films. That makes for the best results, and the debauchery and crazy atmosphere of this film make it hard to forget.

To start with the lesser points, what a horribly idiotic characters are here. Perhaps it would have been better if they remained real people, because imaginative creatures would have been unbearable at all, but they make almost every character a retarded appearance. Neville in particular has some pretty annoying moments, but in general everyone is actually inconspicuous or annoying.

With that all the negative, because the film has a certain charm about it that repeatedly manages to work. Several really genius scenes can be found in this film, such as the escape with the hot air balloon. A few absolute highlights take place through Gilliam's strong visual vision. He manages to create something beautiful in just about every scene. Camera and effects help a lot with this.

The film feels adventurous and full, actually it all goes much better than 80% of the more imaginative adventure films. You don't see flows like this very often anymore. A film full of bombast, spectacle and sound, but it never manages to be boring. So many special things and two hours that pass very quickly. Once the film took me along, I was completely blown away. Nice discovery.
