Drei Männer im Schnee plot

Millionaire Schluter (Paul Dahlke) is unhappy with his life. He wants to go among the people one day as a simple, poor man. He wins a winter sports holiday and travels to the hotel as a poor man. His butler Kesselhutt (Günther Lünder) registers as a rich man to support his boss. The third man, Dr. Fritz Hagedorn (Claus Biederstaedt), is a real poor man who also wins a winter sports trip. Because Schluter informs his daughter Hildegard (Nicole Heesters) and the lady of the hotel that a millionaire wants to stay anonymously in the hotel, Fritz Hagedorn is seen as a millionaire. When the daughter and lady of the house also travel to the hotel, the confusion is complete. In doing so, Fritz Hagedorn and Hildegard Schluter meet and a romance develops.

I just upgraded my rating by a full point. I saw it again after years, and what a wonderfully enjoyable production this is. Erich Kästner possesses exceptional humor, both gentle and sharp, accurate yet always good-natured. No wonder the Nazis hated him. Irony is a powerful weapon...
It's clear from the outset that he himself wrote the script for this film adaptation of his successful 1934 novel. All the roles are perfectly cast, with a special compliment from me to Günther Lüders as the Kesselhut servant. A wonderful atmosphere prevails in every setting. I don't see this film going wrong anywhere—although the "Ski Heil" joke is borderline... but if you're going to accept it from anyone, it's Kästner.
