Die Geträumten plot
Central to this experimental film are the correspondence between Ingeborg Bachmann and Paul Celan. The dramatic, ecstatic, but also infinitely sad love story between Bachmann and Celan begins in 1948, and ends with Celan's suicide in Paris in 1971. For Ingeborg Bachmann he is the great love of her life, yet she always sees him as a stranger and as a Jew from Czernowitz, whose parents died in the Holocaust. She has never experienced such a thing herself. She loves him and pushes boundaries: hers as well as his. In a moment of doubt, she wonders, "Are we just dreaming?"
