Amatrello, 1958. Here is another age-old tradition that when a girl turns 18, any young man who competes for her hand must give a special gift, not to the lady in question but to her father. It is therefore the father who will ultimately determine which candidate is most suitable for his daughter. The 18-year-old fisherman's son Marcello doesn't care about this tradition...until he falls head over heels in love with Elena, the beautiful daughter of the mayor of Amatrello. Elena returns to the beautiful island after years of absence and is now ripe to participate in this time-honored custom. So it's no surprise that all the young men are eagerly standing at the mayor's stairs with a gift to qualify for a "date" with Elena. Marcello is one of them and must come up with the perfect gift for the mayor to conquer his Great Love Elena. But getting your hands on that perfect gift is no small feat!
