Des Fleurs pour Algernon plot

Two scientists are engaged in an important investigation. They try to increase the intellectual capacity of a little white mouse named Algernon tenfold. The results are encouraging and they decide to test their discovery on a human scale. The test subject is Charles Gaessler, a thirty-year-old mentally retarded man. He has been ostracized by his family and is subject to jokes and bullying. The result of their experiment is beyond expectations. Charles is not just intelligent, he is even brilliant. While a new world seems to open up for them, little Algernon is in the meantime worse and worse.
