During the economic recession of the 1930s, Margie Evans, a charming teenager with a heart of gold, wishes a better life for her mother and herself. Margie supports her mother as much as possible with what she can earn as a seamstress. A setback for Margie means moving in with her and her mother of her older, pregnant sister with her abusive husband. Margie is now also trying to raise money to pay for her oldest sister's divorce. How far will desperate Margie have to go to raise money for her family?
