Why Shoot the Teacher? plot

In the 1930s, Max Brown is a young man from a provincial town in the east. He has just finished his studies at university. He is offered a job in the Canadian prairie in a small school with only one classroom. At first he is distant, superior, lonely and bewildered. His students are rebellious. Over the course of the year, he finds himself attracted to Alice Field, a farmer's wife. However, it is a love that leads nowhere. But he eventually develops a bond with his students and it will last.
