Tout Est Parfait plot

When sixteen-year-old Josh enters his friend Thomas's room, Josh discovers that his friend is dead. Thomas took his own life. Not long after, it turns out that three more of Josh's closest friends have also committed suicide. None of them have left a statement. Also, it's puzzling why Josh himself knew nothing about the seemingly collective plan. He has to deal with more than just the loss of his friends. Josh withdraws and becomes increasingly difficult to approach from those around him.

Nice movie. But not great. It all takes a very long time. And it's a pity that we can fill in the ending ourselves. The reason for their actions remain unclear.

Certainly not an easy to digest film about the fragile tension between embracing life and the sometimes elusive call of death. Well directed, but due to the (perhaps unintentional) emphasis on the completion of the well-thought-out scenario, it is also not without flaws.

The non-linear narrative structure ensures that a lot of attention is devoted to reconstructing the near past and gradually revealing the precise role of the protagonist. All of this is ultimately accompanied by a 'plot twist' that was obvious but that I didn't necessarily want in a film on this subject. Found myself distracted from actually getting to the bottom of young adult Josh psychologically. Tout est parfait reinforces the idea that suicide often remains a mystery, and while I never really got anywhere to think that it moved towards glorification, I still lacked definition. That could possibly have been realized if the director had chosen to focus more on the motives of the boys - with ''just like that'' no surviving relative ever finds peace.

Four friends commit suicide at about the same time and one friend stays behind and has to deal with it. While the few people who remain also have their grief processing. Not a happy topic. And initially the film also seems very slow and you are waiting for something to happen. But that doesn't happen and the film continues as it started, only that it eventually works. The depressing atmosphere is appropriate and ensures a nice build-up the further you get into the film. A film that is far from cheerful. But it manages to impress, with beautiful acting and a beautiful soundtrack.
