Dokuritsu Gurentai plot

Sergeant Okubo's brother is killed at a Japanese outpost in northern China during World War II. Okubo goes undercover as a war correspondent to find his brother's killer. When his unit is defeated by the Chinese army, he joins a band of bandits.
