I still had high hopes for this early and independent Emmerich, but this film also disappoints. Ghost Chase had everything it takes to be a smooth 80's monster movie, but the moments of magic are very few and far between. The ET lookalike is very nice and the setting is fine, but the film lacks creativity and, above all, authenticity. It is clearly a German production on American soil. Too bad, but the hope for a nice Emmerich has now completely disappeared.

2*

The audience regularly agrees that director Roland Emmerich is too concerned with spectacular bombast and not enough with substantive story, but within Hollywood Monster it is exactly the other way around. For too long, there is simply nothing going on and the concept can hardly be maintained in between. The acting is nevertheless nice and the 80s atmosphere is optimal, but in the end Emmerich simply does not fill it enough in terms of visual discoveries. The build-up can be called quite charming to a certain extent, but the finale is so overexposed and chaotic that Hollywood Monster does not exactly reward the wait. Points because the makers knew what to do with the detailing, but you really have to like these types of environments to be able to ignore all the negatives.
