The Rocky Horror Picture Show: Let's Do the Time Warp Again plot

"Transcend your expectations"

On their way back from a wedding party, Brad and Janet find themselves in a strangely inhospitable area. They get caught in a terrible rainstorm, get lost and get a flat tire. Fortunately, there is a castle nearby: Frankenstein Castle. This is where Doctor Frank-N-Furter and his friends, from a transsexual planet in the Transylvanian galaxy, have settled in.

Redundant, lazy sequel to the cult classic. Not really a sequel, but just a repetition of the cult classic, only this new version is really a few levels lower. The music, direction and the acting are all very mediocre here. To be honest, I didn't really like the original. An idiotic, exaggerated cabinet of curiosities at the time with the music, Susan Sarandon and a strong Tim Curry in a striking role as plus points, made that at least a special viewing experience. You wonder why they wanted to repeat this now dated rock opera almost literally in 2016, it adds absolutely nothing to what we have seen before. Tim Curry, the star of the original, returns here in a negligible role as narrator, also a striking example of a wrong choice made by the initiators of this repetition exercise, which will therefore appeal to only a few people.

Musical film by Disney director Kenny Ortega presents itself as a kind of sequel, but is in reality a modern repetition of the original. For example, the songs are copied here without question, only this time by actual artists, which makes the songs sound much better. The visual layout looks considerably more polished and all kinds of colors are pulled out of the closet to shape the world, but nevertheless it all makes a static impression. The costumes have a cheap decoration and the acting is not great, especially Laverne Cox should not come close to what Tim Curry (seen here in a guest role) managed to deliver. In the end it is quite entertaining and if you are not a big fan of the first part it will probably taste reasonable, in retrospect it would of course have been better if this film stood completely on its own.
