Rwanda, les Collines Parlent plot
Eleven years after the genocide in Rwanda, victims and perpetrators face each other before the gacaca courts. These tribunals, chaired by 'trustworthy citizens', must ensure that the truth is revealed, that justice is delivered and that a reconciliation is achieved between the two sides. Without a voiceover and without archive footage, Bellefroid only shows the testimonies of Rwandans, their reservations and their sometimes dramatic cunning to avoid the truth or learn to live with never-ending fears. Most of the accused have been in jail for several years and hope to be released after trial. The victims, for their part, hope to finally know the truth and come to terms with their loss.
