"A Man's Love! A Woman's Courage!"
Doctor Merek Vance returns to his hometown of Blairtown. He is originally from the bad side of town and has a great grudge against the richest family in town. But then the deaf daughter of this family comes to him for treatment, which presents him with a dilemma. Partly because he has found a remedy that can cure deafness.

It may be my age, but I still enjoy most dramas from the golden age of Hollywood studios. This melodrama about a young woman from a wealthy background who is forced to cross paths with a young doctor from the bottom of society.
It's all terribly predictable, but that doesn't bother me much. Even less when the beautiful Loretta Young is there. She's good for over a hundred films, of which I've seen about a quarter by now. Not everything she touches turns to gold, but she's usually very good. Alan Ladd (this time in an atypical role) rarely disappoints either. Together they gave me an entertaining little hour and a half.

the character development and the believability of the romance between the two is the strong point of the film
further indeed predictable but that doesn't matter because it is very well executed with good acting between Ladd and Young.
