A bit of a strange mix. A remake of an anime, and with a melting pot as crew and cast.

Nahon's style is easy to recognize, and I think it saves the film - or maybe it's the kick after. Makes it something special, that's for sure. Just like the presence of Koyuki - who I always find very impressive. On the other hand, Allison Miller, who doesn't impress - and Gianna Jun, who does.

An important part of the story is (ahem, of course) filled with fights. Beautifully depicted, as we can expect from Nahon, with the scene with the attack from the tree as the highlight. But the sad CGI in the scenes with the truck makes no sense - just like the often mentioned blood balls. To make the link with the anime perhaps, or maybe just out of laziness or simply failed.

For fans it will be fun to see, but I think everyone else will find it a strange film.

Nice mix of action and horror with an Eastern Western touch. Visually the film often looks good in terms of colours, lighting, certain shots....but the special effects are very inconsistent. Take the long action scene in the atmospheric streets. That looks great, but the scene with the truck was toe-curlingly bad. The cast did not disappoint me. Ji-hyun Jun is perfectly cast as Saya and Koyuki as Onigen also plays her role well. The story itself is not that great, so the film has to rely more on the imagination and the numerous spectacular fights. 6.5/10

Cultural mix, handled by French director Chris Nahon. His direction clearly has a good sense of color, which makes a lot of location choices and night shots spectacular and beautiful. The opening is quite good in this way and the dressing of the characters is nicely done, the story on the other hand gets a bit too much priority. Even though I am not a fan of the animated series, I did know that Blood-C existed (mainly known for the intense bloodshed and the variety of enemies). However, this is not the case in this film. In fact, the demonic opponents come from the computer and move forward in a particularly wooden way. The bloodshed also has a digital look and does not look good, which makes a lot of the action scenes fall flat. Towards the finale, the film has a somewhat more imaginative tone, but by then the whole thing can no longer keep itself above water. Bonus points for the nice lead role and a nice sequence in the Japanese streets.
