The Valley of Light plot
Noah returns from WWII to find his farm dilapidated, his parents dead and his brother in prison. He meets an elderly eccentric who tells him he can see "the other side" and who leads him to the "Valley of Light" where Noah becomes an exceptionally good fisherman. In the nearby town, he befriends the young widow Eleanor and the deaf-mute boy Matthew.
