Remo Williams: The Adventure Begins plot

"A hero who doesn't exist must save America from an enemy we never knew we had."

Samuel Makin, a smart New York police officer, disappears "dead" in the police archives and is given a new face, identity and name: Remo Williams. A secret government department gives Remo his mission: total extermination of all serious criminals who have so far been outside the arm of the law. Armed with the ancient martial art of Sinanju, we see Remo turn into a deadly fighting machine.

Nice late film by Guy Hamilton, much nicer than those Agatha Christie films. Remo is a boss and the action scenes are still spectacular. The pace is a bit slow, but that shouldn't spoil the fun.

3.5*

Arrow Blu-ray is highly recommended!

Reasonable film about a police officer who is recruited into a secret department after his death. The plot is not really interesting and the long training during the first half is a bit repetitive. However, the action scenes are worth it, with the highlight being the scene with the Statue of Liberty in scaffolding.

I was quite disappointed. I had forgotten that the film was partly a comedy, and it was those parody parts with the fake Asian that didn't suit me. Why a fake Asian anyway? Aren't there enough real ones around right now? And so the first hour became a fairly boring Karate Kid parody with a long and idiotic learning process. Then, from the action scene at the Statue of Liberty in scaffolding, came the adventure spectacle (including an Indiana Jones-like tune); no more rest until the end. This was followed by an infiltration of the military research facility with the smart dobermans. The final act takes us to Mount Promise, a test site for new weapons., where Remo Williams gets a female buddy/love interest. I also thought it was too much of a TV series to watch and that's why I don't give it more than 2.5*.
