La Charrette Fantôme plot
Every year, on the midnight of Saint Sylvester, a man is taken by Death. Anyone who is alone at that moment and hears the creaking wheels of a mysterious covered wagon in the distance will die. The carter is Death in its very person. David Holm, a glassblower, is sick and bitter. He gets on the wrong track. He beats his wife and his children. On the infamous night, he decides to go out with a friend. However, they get into an argument and he stabs his friend. At that moment - as the last clock strikes midnight - the doomed covered wagon arrives and the man dies. David is accused of murder and flees.
