Nice in-between where the family aspects are particularly well presented.
This Christmas starts off as a feel good movie with of course the well-known Christmas songs, but this time in a classic way which is a lot nicer than just the original versions. In between also a few nice soul numbers. 
The drama part doesn't really come across well, especially in the first half of the film, it sometimes seems a bit forced and the film seems to have trouble switching between comedy and drama. Fortunately, it has more impact in the second half and also plays a bigger and more important role in the story and the development of the characters.
Obviously you can expect a sweet ending, but that's just part of Christmas, right?
In short: More of a comedy-drama than a real drama, it might be more appropriate to call this film a drama-comedy.
This Christmas isn't a particularly original or high-quality film, but it certainly delivers a feel-good vibe.

Ambitious portrayal of a large family, each member of which struggles with a personal problem. Unfortunately, the characters are not portrayed in a very interesting way by director Preston A. Whitmore II, which means that the relatively long running time cannot count on a certain degree of sympathy. The acting is also not very convincing, only Delroy Lindo and Idris Elba manage to give a certain degree of nuance to their appearances. The other characters are mainly annoying and it is painful to see how little maturity comes with their characters, which means that as a viewer you are constantly working against a degree of frustration rather than being able to understand it. After almost two hours, Whitmore II apparently had enough himself and makes all the accumulated problems disappear in no time. It is simply too easy, even though This Christmas is mainly intended as a feel-good film.
