A cafeteria worker is hired by a perfume manufacturer's marketing manager to live the life of the nonexistent Daisy Appleby, heiress to a fortune. This allows the company to make a commercial move. Daisy soon meets fellow high society member Johnny Jones and has a fake marriage with him to keep fortune seekers away. But Johnny, who is actually penniless, soon gets tired of her and also discovers that she is not who she says she is.
