An interesting, but not an easy film to watch. Made in 1978 in Yugoslavia, where the Serbs ruled. So you could widely measure the atrocities of the Croatian fascists, Germans and Italians. In that respect, this is also a propaganda film, which suited the communists well, because it mainly hunts communists, anti-fascists and Jews. The (long) scene in the bus in which Jews and communists are gruesomely slaughtered has become especially notorious. Only, the Croats could also make such a film, because the Serbs had just as much blood on their hands. The specter of nationalism still haunts the Balkans, because during the civil war of 1991/1992 it was again 'thinly' repeated. I was in Dubrovnik in 1992 and saw how the city was shot to rubble from the mountains by the Serbs in an eight-month siege without need. No, no country to go back to.
