Wonderful piece of youth sentiment and therefore not entirely without prejudice, seen so often in the past and thought it was a very exciting miniseries. Matt Damon is up for grabs, Chamberlain is Bourne and he always will be for me. Well, it's not that particularly good or much better than the Damon series, but Chamberlain does put down a much better character, and I also think the tension and the quest portrayed are much better.

There are a lot of little details that don't add up. Bullet holes in windows that are there, then gone, and yet suddenly there again. Shots from weapons mounted incorrectly underneath, one minute the Canadian has her coat on in the car, the next not. They are small things that should be seen in the era, just like the music that is sometimes a bit too dramatic and certain moments tend to overact. For the time this was a mega production, lots of characters, great action, good performance and a convincing lead character. In that sense, it's definitely a great movie.

A fairly decent and exciting film adaptation for TV of Ludlum's novel, which is now in the shadow of the sharp cinema version with Matt Damon. Long but with many complications that maintain a serious complexity and with good and atmospheric use of authentic locations. Hitchcock is never far away, with the detail from The 39 steps of the man on the run "taking a woman hostage" with all the romantic consequences that entails, and from North by Northwest we know the innocent man who is used as bait, but because the approach here is serious, that's no problem. The one who does pose a problem is Jaclyn Smith. Richard Chamberlain to me is still Dr. Kildare does his job very well here, but Smith is nothing more than a beautiful presence that occasionally falls quite short in the dramatic way (in the scene in the car at the farm: "For God's sake [i]love[ /i] me, Jason!"). And then that it always stays with her... Anyway, a small blemish on an otherwise still entertaining television movie that, as far as I can remember, is a lot better than what was common at the time.
