"Nothing rhymes with Germany"

Thirteen-year-old African-American Morris has a rather difficult relationship with his father Curtis, during his adolescence. They have only recently moved to Heidelberg, Germany, a city with a rich history but little diversity. Morris falls in love with Katrin, a local German girl, and his tumultuous relationship with her leads him to discover more about himself and also creates new dynamics in his relationship with his father.
