Nice movie.

It starts off nicely with a part of Lyon that I know well - well enough to spot them driving against the traffic. Well, the film is set a while ago, maybe you were allowed to go the other way back then. And immediately a nice performance by Cotillard.

The story is good, and is well presented - nice timing, with a touch of mystery in it. And just enough acute tragedy to be worthy of the drama genre, besides the long-winded discontent then. And very beautifully filmed, apart from the beautiful beginning even. A bit too much just a Cotillard vehicle, the rest of the cast does a bit little for me. Although it must be said that Garrel did not really disappoint me, even if his casting is a bit cliché.

What a beautiful, moving film. The story captivated me, I got into it easily and I think Marion Cotillard is such a good actress. In this film too she plays a strong role, and an intriguing character. I am happy that I can raise the score on moviemeter a bit, because as far as I am concerned it deserves more. 4*

Cold romantic drama begins in France in the 1950s. Gabrielle [Marion Cotillard] loses her unborn baby due to kidney stones and after consulting with her husband [Àlex Brendemühl] she decides to travel to a spa in the Alps. There she meets André [Louis Garrel] with whom she begins an extramarital affair. According to the official description, Gabrielle is a “passionate, free spirit”, but Cotillard mainly portrays her as emotionless with a good dose of boredom. Listless, dry film adaptation of the book 'Mal De Pierres' by Milena Agus with the only plus point being the neat camera work of Christophe Beaucarne.
