Fascinating indeed, especially the urge to experiment + eye for details (extreme close-ups). Yet the tempo is so slow here and there (especially at the end where we see a waving sea for 6 minutes under the music of Prokovjev), whereby the attention slackens considerably. Revision is necessary.

Quite mixed feelings seeing Limite. In terms of feeling, the film is indeed quite long and not always very exciting. On the other hand, there is the beauty of the film, which I did not expect beforehand. during the film I was reminded a bit of the style of Un Chien Andalou, although that film is even more of an experiment.

I was a bit disappointed, although I couldn't really imagine what Limite would be like beforehand. It is in fact a big flashback, looking back at the lives of the people in the boat. In between we see the images of the present, which are often supported by violin music. Due to the varied camera work, Peixoto manages to keep things reasonably interesting in the first half.

However, as Limite progresses, it is noticeable that some things are quite repetitive. As a result, it eventually starts to drag quite a bit and I was finally happy that the film was over. In between, quite some interesting things happen now and then, but visually and substantively it is not strong enough because the entire playing time can be fulfilled. A little less repetition would have made the film shorter and better.

I was especially curious about Limite, because it scores high in the list of best Brazilian films of all time. I'm not going to say that something like that is unjustified, but at least I couldn't quite get it out, although it could also be that Limite isn't quite my cup of tea.

2.5*
