Lavoura Arcaica plot
The film focuses on a family of Lebanese immigrants in the Brazilian countryside sometime around the turn of the century. Their isolation and strict, religious father drives some family members to despair. Especially André and this one decides to flee. But is the strict regime the only reason?

Heavy stuff. Especially the first part of the film, which is dominated by theatrical monologues, is in my experience very tough. The second part with the confrontation between the father and the prodigal son is somewhat more accessible, but here too the bombastic language is an obstacle.
I am not familiar with Raduan Nassar's book and after seeing this film I feel little need to start reading it.
