Cesar Charron, the flamboyant owner of a Grand Guignol theater in 19th-century Paris, plans to stage a stage version of Edgar Allan Poe's Murders in the Rue Morgue. This against the wishes of his daughter Madeleine, who is plagued by nightmares from this play. After some of the actors are found dead, Charron suspects that his former partner René Marot, who was thought to be dead after the murder of Charron's wife, is behind this.
