"A second chance for a first love."
Patti Peterson (Selma Blair) is an unlucky thirty-something in New York City who has had to give up her dream of becoming a writer. Still, the desire to become a great author one day remains, especially when she meets her first love Brian (Patrick Wilson) - herself a successful crime writer. That evening she is out with her best friend Kate (Debra Messing). Brian is out with his friend Murphy (Edward Burns), who has been in a relationship with Kate again. When the four pick up stories about the old days, Patti falls in love with Brian again. But she also discovers that the problems of that time have not yet been solved.
