Chocolate plot
Jamie (Henry Thomas) is a single and somewhat depressed young man. At a certain point, he suffers from all kinds of strange hallucinations and strange dreams. Jamie then falls in love with a woman he has never met. One day Jamie is fed up and decides to visit her. But is this such a good idea?

My sixth installment from the Masters of Horror that I've seen, and from the series' executive producer Mick Garris at that, is for me the weakest part so far.
I don't know what this is doing in the series; horror is nowhere to be found in this film. Instead, it is a slow, muddled story that sells better as a thriller. And I also wonder what motivates Garris to call himself a Master of Horror. Master of Drama might fit better?
Vague hallucinations that add little to nothing and a resolution that leaves you unsatisfied and with a big frown on your face. I agree with Chainsaw: Boring, slow, and almost a disaster. Too bad Garris missed his chance. 2*

MOH episode 12.
Ugh, I really wasn't looking forward to this. I saw a Garris movie once before, Desperation, and it was incredibly long-winded. After reading a few comments here, the term 'long-winded' was used frequently here too. So, the tiny bit of enthusiasm I had left for this movie vanished into thin air. But oh well, it's only an hour and it's good to have seen all the episodes once. And maybe it won't be that bad. And off we go..
And indeed, it exceeded my expectations. Even though it isn't really clear exactly what it's about, the atmosphere is solid. There are also quite a few scenes that made me shudder slightly. Unfortunately, the film loses the plot at a certain point and you are left waiting for the climax. It isn't great. But still. Very bad as horror, but not bad as a thriller.

It is actually sort of ironic that the name behind the entire series subsequently comes up with this rubbish trifle that, in essence, really makes no sense. Henry Thomas himself should really be scratching his head regarding his contribution, which seems to have been written primarily to put him on the spot. Furthermore, Chocolate builds itself up to a reasonably original angle that is ultimately executed rather half-heartedly, with a pointless romance as the icing on the cake. Visually poorly designed as well, meaning there is no sign of any tension or threat whatsoever. What remains is a handful of actors and actresses doing their best to make something of it, but who simply cannot stand up to the nonsensical content.
