Just before notorious mobster Vincent Canelli is put on the electric chair, he and Peter Manning, a bank robber and murderer, who would also be executed after Vincent, make a daring escape from his prison. With the help of several hostages, they try to collect their share of a previous bank robbery from Manning to finance their escape abroad.

Grim crime film with Edward Robinson in perhaps his most violent role (his character reminded me somewhat of Cagney's role in WHITE HEAT), although Cagney was perhaps a bit more intense in it.
Robinson plays Vincent Canelli, a ruthless killer on death row who manages to escape execution at the last moment with the help of henchmen who had kidnapped the daughter of one of the guards.
Canelli has an accomplice who has hidden a large sum of money, with which they hope to be able to escape the country.
But they are cornered and here Canelli shows just how murderous he is.
Robinson does well in his intense role and the story is very exciting until the end.
