In 1973, Jan Akkerman was named the best guitarist in the world by the leading British music magazine Melody Maker. We are now more than thirty years later. How has the guitarist fared in the rest of his turbulent life? In 2006, the year Akkerman turned 60, filmmaker Hans Hylkema followed him for a year. It has resulted in a biographical film, which makes it clear that Akkerman attaches great importance to the concept of 'freedom'.
