Responsible for the deaths of 1,500 men, Colonel Frank Marston (Preston) is banished to the furthest corner of the American border. Driven by shame, Marston plans a glorious return by sending a group of shaggy recruits on a suicide mission against the Native Americans. Jed Cooper (Mature) is the only one who can stop him, but he can't choose between saving the lives of his friends and letting them face their own demise. He is in love with the Colonel's wife, Corrina (Anne Bancroft), and the only way to get her is through Marston's death?
