Summer 1944. On an officer's training course somewhere in Germany, new batches are trained continuously for the front. The motley crew of the instructors reflects different characters of the fading Third Reich. When young Lieutenant Barkow is killed by a blasting charge during a pioneering exercise, Lieutenant Krafft leads the investigation into the accident. He soon discovers that it was a deliberate death
