Ten-year-old Betty is afraid of ghosts and dark corners. When her sister Agnès goes to a boarding school, Betty is left alone with her parents who are divorced. One day someone climbs over the wall between their garden and the park of the neighboring institution. Betty wants to take care of the stranger and hides him in the garden shed. She tells him everything, determined to make him her best friend. The stranger barely speaks back. However, a relationship of trust gradually develops between them. Betty decides to flee with him.
