Nue Propriété plot

Pascale lives in a farm in Walloon Brabant with her twin sons François and Thierry. The two boys can barely take care of themselves and she still lives at war with her ex-husband. Her lover encourages her to sell the farm and open a bed and breakfast in the Alps, but her sons resist. Pascale asks her lover to intervene, but the maintenance goes badly and the lover distances himself. Desperate, Pascale leaves the house. During her absence, war breaks out between the two brothers.

This film certainly appealed to me, for me Isabelle Huppert is a top actress, a woman who can empathize with a story very well. I think that's the strength of an actor or actress.

The house, the dilapidated interior, the mess and life on the edge of the countryside give the film an extra dimension. The story is slow, everyone is busy with his or her own thing .... and eventually the shards are gathered together .... A human drama like there are so many in daily life .... This film comes close to a crucial point in how people deal with each other in a relationship, divorce or problem....namely mostly self-oriented.

The D'ardennes? I understand the comparison, but this film never comes close in terms of level. It's too unbalanced a mix between minimalist film and one that's too made up for that. A film that seems to pursue a fierce realism, but never feels real. The worst sin is the ridiculous ending in which the shards of the family are literally picked up, but there are a little too many of those kind of almost clumsy transparent moments. Because of the aforementioned scene in which the one brother is in the bushes and the ambulance comes I go to 2.5*, because that scene was really good.

A film that is somewhat compared to the material of the brothers D'Ardennes, but in general suited me better. In the beginning it takes some getting used to. The 2 brothers are not exactly child actors and not only do the actors differ somewhat in age (6 years between them), they have to pass for children of Isabelle Huppert's character... After a while you get used to it.

The film shows a disrupted family after a divorce, with each of them mainly occupied with themselves. But because they are related to each other, they are still attached to each other and that creates the necessary tensions. Until something drastic has to happen to open their eyes and look at each other in order to move on with life.

This is a film with realism, but sometimes (as with the brothers d'Ardennes) a bit forced and quite depressed. Gradually it can be quite fascinating, but it lacks the great impact to really convince. Nicely made, but not a film that keeps on reverberating.
