Austeria plot
Polish Galicia 1914, on the eve of the First World War. Three different nationalities live in the area: Poles, Ukrainians and Jews. The local inn is run by an old and wise Jew. The neighboring village has already been abandoned by the Jews, who are fleeing from the advancing Cossacks. Soon the inn is overcrowded with distraught Jews. There is also an Austrian baroness on the run, and a Hungarian hussar cut off from his army unit.
