"It takes more than a kiss to cover up a killing!"
Sam Donovan (Dennis O'Keefe) is an insurance detective who investigates the suicide of a policyholder in a small town. All signs point to murder, but no one is willing to cooperate in the victim's hometown. Local sheriff Larry Best (William Bendix) is also absent. Finally, Donovan gets help from Anita Weatherby (Barbara Britton) who breaks through the wall of silence and unwillingness and joins him in quest to solve the mystery.
