I also ventured into it and it was not wrong and that is a bit said with it. A top cast (Martin Freeman, Gwyneth Paltrow, Penélope Cruz and Danny DeVito), but it didn't really splash and crackle on the screen.

Not a standard story, but certainly not bad, but not wow either. I thought the ending suited the story.

I wasn't immediately blown away, but I didn't find it sleep-inducing either. The box said romantic comedy, but I didn't find this directly applicable, I thought it was more of a feature film.

An intriguing premise and a great cast, but the film doesn't really go anywhere halfway through, and the final outcome is very predictable and the morale fairly good. Fortunately, Simon Pegg is very nice as a jerk, and Danny DeVito is surprisingly moving as a apparent charlatan with a small heart and a sad disposition, so that in the end I just kept watching quite fascinated (no lame jokes about soporific etc. .).

They should have put more effort into this, because there were certainly intriguing and nice pieces. Sometimes I thought of 'LA Story' and sometimes 'Being John Malkovich', but I don't want to raise any false expectations!

Worth the effort for the Cruz completeists anyway. Paltrow is again borderline annoying (not totally bad either; actually I only found her perfect in 'Se7en'), Pegg & Freeman do something fun together again and DeVito almost always does well, this role could have been much more, just like so the whole movie.

-edit- and then I forget Gambon, who also seems to have been forgotten by the makers; can be seen briefly in the beginning, I suspect the rest has been cut out?

1.5* and still glad I saw it, strange but true.
