Ultimately, the idea is better than the execution. Price is nice and menacing as a ruthless psychiatrist, although his new lover is even more ruthless. It's a pity about the somewhat dorky sergeant who just accepts everything and plays a good role all too emphatically. Anabel Shaw also serves as the blonde, but spends most of the film in bed.

Her nightmarish treatment of the abusive staff was beautifully depicted a few times. The creepy intermezzo with an escaped patient was also exciting enough. Certainly not a bad film, but ultimately not one that will stick around, I think.

In terms of content, you have to tolerate quite a few clichés and implausibilities. It starts with an accidentally overheard conversation and a murderer who doesn't think to draw the curtain. The witness is in a state of shock, with low blood pressure and mental confusion. During the hypnosis sessions she remembers everything. Lynn Bari plays the femme fatale who wants to push him to commit a second murder. Despite the nonsensical intrigue, it is a fun watch, thanks to the speaking and acting style of Vincent Price in the role of gentleman criminal. Stylistically it is also beautiful, with the use of shadows and smoke.

Solid film noir, with Vincent Price in particular as a psychiatrist and his younger mistress making the film go above and beyond the average. Lynn Bari (Elaine) gradually develops herself more and more as a ruthless person who will do anything to support her beloved Price's plan and even go a step further when they are cornered. Anabel Shaw plays Janet Stewart who is the witness to Dr Cross's murder of his wife. Completely in shock, after being admitted to a psychiatric facility, she coincidentally comes into contact with Price, who now has to come up with a cunning plan to silence this witness. Her role is not really striking, just like the rest of the cast. The final scene is a bit bizarre when Price has difficulty carrying out his plan and takes it out on Elaine. Plus points are the beautiful black and white images and stylish scenes with shadows. 6.5/10
