As an elderly person, Lucien feels out of place until an encounter gives his life a little more impetus.
It is the best part of the film because afterwards the film tends to stay with superficialities.
Fortunately there are Nand Buyl and Marijke Pinoy, otherwise the film would go even deeper.

Solid Flemish film about an old grumpy and lonely man who refuses to move into a retirement home, but is forced to accept some help at home. The relationship with his daughter is difficult and the home help was not always professional either. He is an opportunist and occasionally gets the lid on the nose. His granddaughter and later his neighbor are the bright spots in his life, resulting in a moving portrait.
Nand Buyl does an excellent job as the spry Lucien, but Viviane Demunck and Marijke Pinoy also play their roles very well. The relationship with Sylvia was fascinating to follow, but his stubborn character was also fun. Not a topper, it remained a bit too superficial for that, but I certainly had no regrets.

A nice film about an old man who, after the death of his wife, has to survive independently in his house and with the people around him. The story leaves no surprises and you don't have to look for a deeper layer. What you see is what you get. And that in itself is ok, for an easy entertainment. But the stories are also a bit exaggerated and the people in the film are sometimes almost a caricature of themselves. All just a little too over the top. And that's still a fail for me.
